About

News about the coronavirus in Portugal, written in English and delivered to your inbox daily. If you’re a foreigner (estrangeiro) living in Portugal, it can be hard to keep up with the news. You don’t know who most of the people are and if you don’t

speak Portuguese, you don’t know what they’re saying either. So you probably don’t bother.

Well, right now, as much as it sucks, it’s really important to know what’s going on around. You need to know how Portugal is changing to cope with the pandemic and what you should do to keep yourself and other people safe.

So I’m putting together a short daily newsletter to keep you updated on the latest. It’s not designed to scare you or depress you, just a quick update to let you know what’s happening in the country you’ve chosen to live in.

I’ll put it out every weekday afternoon in plain English, not copy and pasted from Google Translate, with links to all the original articles so you know you can trust them. Hopefully some people find it useful and everyone can be a little bit better informed.

Seriously, another newsletter?
Yes, I know COVID-19 and email are probably the two most overwhelming things in your life right now. But this will only take a minute or two out of your day.

Who the hell are you? And why should I trust you?
I’m an Australian journalist with almost 10 years’ experience writing about breaking news, crime and health. I’m not a fluent Portuguese speaker, even though my Dad is Portuguese, but my level is good enough to translate news articles into plain English. I’ll only source news from the most respected Portuguese publications (mostly Público and Diário de Notícias) so you know it can be relied on.

this is the newsletter for you if you need/want to know what's happening in Portugal
If you live in Portugal or care about what's going on there with regard to the coronavirus, this is an invaluable newsletter. It's written in English and is super interesting how it covers what the government is doing, considering, etc.
