We all have brains that are sometimes sweet and sometimes dumb. This is an attempt to explore my sweet dumb brain, and to hopefully glean lessons that will help you understand yours a little better.

My Sweet Dumb Brain is written by Katie Hawkins-Gaar. It’s edited by Rebecca Coates, one of Katie’s best friends from college, and the logo and banner were designed by Rory Hawkins (also known as Catlanta), Katie’s brother.

Katie is a journalism consultant, freelance writer, and a somewhat reluctant expert on grief. Her dad died in 2013 (he was 58; Katie was 28), and her husband, Jamie, passed away in 2017 (he was 32; Katie was 31). Jamie’s death inspired her to create this newsletter. From the inaugural issue:
