The Northern California Comprehensive Thalassemia Center at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland is the largest thalassemia program in the US. It was established in 1991 to deliver comprehensive care to the growing number of thalassemia…
…patients in the region. Our center has more than 200 patients on active followup and over 800 patient visits every year. It is one of the few NIH funded centers in the nation. We are also at the forefront of research to develop new treatments for thalassemia. Over the 25 years of its existence, the Center has had a major impact on the care of thalassemia both nationally and internationally. Dr. Ashutosh Lal is the Director of the Program.
