This week over 5000 issues came in… (a slow newsletter week between holidays it seems!)
The "newly emerging" and "biggest increase" terms mainly related to famous people who passed away this week (*sniff *sniff). I also expect that by the time this newsletter goes out "Betty" or "White" will be emerging as well (Betty White, the actress, passed away at 99 on Friday) -- and she's up to over 90 newsletter mentions at the time of writing this.
(Click on any of the terms to learn more about them and read newsletter issues they're in)
Newly Emerging Terms
- Desmond & Tutu ... as in South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace laureate and anti-apartheid leader, who passed away this week
- Madden... as in John Madden the Hall of Fame football coach and broadcaster who also passed away this week
- Reid... as in the Democrat politician Harry Reid (Senate Majority Leader from 2007 to 2015) who also also passed away this week. .
- apartheid... related to discussions of Archbishop Tutu's life (and death)
Biggest Increase in Usage from Previous Week
- counting... (>140%) somewhat random, but many related to "counting down" towards the end of the year or "counting" on their readers as the year ends...
Most Used Terms
"Christmas", "love", and "home" almost displace "covid" in the top set, but, similar to the real world, the dang virus held on strong...
Note that these "Most Used" terms tend to be used very broadly, in lots of contexts... vs. the other "Emerging" and "Biggest Usage Increase" terms which are, as you can tell, quite narrow and likely more meaningful/interesting.
