This week over 6800 issues came in…
As predicted in the last newsletter, "Betty" (as in Betty White who passed away last Friday) made it on the list of biggest increases from last week. Other themes popping up in abundance included the Elizabeth Holmes verdict and the Jan. 6, 2021 anniversary. The "increased usage" terms, percentagewise, were quite high compared to other weeks, with all of them being greater than or around 450% (usually there's more of a range...high 100%s to 400%s).

Newly Emerging Terms
- rioters...mainly driven by discussions related to the year anniversary of the Jan 6, 2021, US Capitol riot
- Theranos... related to Theranos CEO/founder, Elizabeth Holmes, who was found guilty this week on four of 11 federal charges
- Djokovic... as in Novak Djokovic, the tennis star, who was denied entry to Australia (for the Australian Open) because he failed to meet the requirements for a medical exemption of the Covid vaccination rules
Biggest Increase in Usage from Previous Week
- Betty (>450%)... as in actress Betty White, 99, who passed away on Dec 31st
- riot (>450%)... similar to "rioters" above, related to anniversary of the US Capitol riot
- Holmes (~450%)... as in Elizabeth Holmes (Theranos CEO/founder), found guilty this week on four federal charges
Most Used Terms
"Christmas" and "love" fell off the top terms after the holidays; hopefully love still runs strong in the world even if people aren't talking about it! The chatter about Covid has definitely continued with great volume and vigor.
Note that these "Most Used" terms tend to be used very broadly, in lots of contexts... vs. the other "Emerging" and "Biggest Usage Increase" terms which are, as you can tell, quite narrow and likely more meaningful/interesting.
