Good day!
Normally we handpick newsletter issues by independent writers that provide new or unique perspectives... but our lead researcher/writer is on maternity leave so we are exploring newsletter content that isn't as time-intensive, like trending terms and some specifically-themed newsletters.
Thanks for sticking with us until our normal programming resumes! And sorry our regular weekly cadence has been a bit irregular lately.
(And If someone forwarded you this and you'd like to subscribe, you can do that here -- thanks!)
Here's what's trending this week in newsletters...enjoy!
This week over 8000 issues came in…
Many of the top words relate to the US government (impending shutdown, investigations, etc) and global issues (German election, Canada-China-US Huawei affair)...
(Click on any of the terms to learn more about them and read newsletter issues they're in)
Newly Emerging Terms
- chancellor ... as in Angela Merkel and the election in Germany
- Gottheimer ... Josh Gottheimer, Democrat in the House of Representatives from New Jersey
- lays ... nothing in particular: lays a wreath, lays the groundwork for, lays out ____, etc
- subpoenas ... issued by the House committee that's investigating the January 6th insurrection
- Huawei ... Canada released the CFO of Huawei to return to China
Biggest Increase in Usage from Previous Week
- merkel (>300%) ... as in Angela Merkel and the election in Germany this week
- avert (>150%) ... as in a government shutdown
- faculty (>150%) ... many different uses
- clock (>150%) ... driven mainly by comments around the "clock running out" on the debt ceiling and Democrats
Most Used Terms
-
world
-
work
-
life
-
learn
-
covid
-
future
Note that these "Most Used" terms tend to be used very broadly, in lots of contexts... vs. the other "Emerging" and "Biggest Usage Increase" terms which are, as you can tell, quite narrow and likely more meaningful/interesting.
