Good day!

Normally we handpick newsletter issues by independent writers that provide new or unique perspectives... but our lead researcher/writer is on maternity leave so we are exploring newsletter content that isn't as time-intensive, like trending terms and some specifically-themed newsletters.

Thanks for sticking with us until our normal programming resumes!  And sorry our regular weekly cadence has been a bit irregular lately.

(And If someone forwarded you this and you'd like to subscribe, you can do that here -- thanks!)

Here's what's trending this week in newsletters...enjoy!

This week over 8000 issues came in…
Three sets of trending terms related to the missing Chinese tennis star, Steve Bannon, and the end of Britney Spears' conservatorship; the rest covered a variety of current topics...
(Click on any of the terms to learn more about them and read newsletter issues they're in)

Newly Emerging Terms

  • staples... as in the Staples Center which is being renamed Crypto.com arena
  • censure... related to Rep. Paul Gosar being censured by the House of Representatives
  • Austria... related to the country, which just announced it's going to mandate the Covid vaccine (the first Western democracy to do so)

Biggest Increase in Usage from Previous Week

  • Bannon (>600%) and contempt (>200%) ... related to Steve Bannon, who recently pleaded not guilty to contempt of Congress charges
  • eclipse (>200%)... related to longest partial lunar eclipse in 580 years (!!!)
  • Olympics (~200%)...  related to the possibly diplomatic boycott
  • Malcolm (>150%)...  related to the recent release of the two men previously convicted of killing Malcolm X

Most Used Terms

Note that these "Most Used" terms tend to be used very broadly, in lots of contexts... vs. the other "Emerging" and "Biggest Usage Increase" terms which are, as you can tell, quite narrow and likely more meaningful/interesting.

By the time you read this, there will surely be some new trending topics, since they're updated in real time as newsletters come in. You can always check them on narrowSCALE'S home page if you're curious.
