Good day!

Normally we handpick newsletter issues by independent writers that provide new or unique perspectives... but our lead researcher/writer is on maternity leave so we are exploring newsletter content that isn't as time-intensive.

Thanks for sticking with us until our normal programming resumes!

(And If someone forwarded you this and you'd like to subscribe, you can do that here -- thanks!)

Here's what's trending this week in newsletters...enjoy!

This week over 8300 issues came in…
There weren't any overwhelmingly concentrated term themes this week, though the diplomatic boycott of the upcoming Olympics did lead the pack with three term mentions.
(Click on any of the terms to learn more about them and read newsletter issues they're in)

Newly Emerging Terms

  • Dole... as in Bob Dole, who passed away this week.
  • Nunes... mainly driven by Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, who will resign from Congress to run Trump's new media company
  • veto... many are mentions of NYC's mayor Bill de Blasio who said he would not veto the new bill allowing noncitizens to vote
  • Myanmar... Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced to prison, new sanctions for human rights, and more...

Biggest Increase in Usage from Previous Week

  • Vladimir (>500%) and Putin (>400%)... Russia's President who's got some high tensions with the Ukraine right now
  • Olympics (>350%), diplomatic (>300%), boycott (>250%)... related to the recent decision from the US (and other countries) to stage a diplomatic boycott of the winter Olympics to be held in China
  • BioNTech (>250%)... as in Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine, its efficacy around Omicron, its approval to be used with 16 &17 yr olds, etc
  • manslaughter (>200%)...  unfortunately, related to multiple killings (charges filed for the Michigan school shooting, opening statements on Kim Potter's trial for the killing of Daunte Wright, etc)
  • Devin (>200%)...  As in Devin Nunes, see above...

Most Used Terms

"Love" popped into the top set this week (aww!) and Covid stayed off!

Note that these "Most Used" terms tend to be used very broadly, in lots of contexts... vs. the other "Emerging" and "Biggest Usage Increase" terms which are, as you can tell, quite narrow and likely more meaningful/interesting.
